I love illustrating from books without any movies or real properly defined visual style, and I always mean to do more with the Garth Nix novels (which I love). And so a while back I started a little project making costume/character designs.
They've got a fashion twist into the fantasy because there's no official look to the characters so I can do whatever I like so long as it adheers to the description in the book (however loosely) I wanted the Clayr robe to be practical yet ethereal which I had a lot of fun designing. I will at some point also make a Clayr in the white version of this robe too.

It's really impressive here how well the waistcoats go with the gown, while the gown still works so well as a stand-alone piece. Those little pockets are awesome too!
