Wow! You've really improved your craft over the years! It's a lot of fun to see these when artists do them. It's also inspiring, and makes it less depressing to keep plugging away at things.
I've tried to make a doll now, and I'm still confused how you manage to work on such a small scale. It's so tiny! So bravo on that front as well.
I think it shows that we are all human and we can all improve. When I made the original doll I got lots of comments telling me how awesome it was and how amazing I was at hair and dresses, and I look at it now and go "wtf were those people smoking."
Small scale is really about illusion and less about representation. Gotta make people believe it's an eye instead of actually drawing an eye as it were. That and subtle colour changes can make a world of difference.
You old dolls are still wow, but the new ones are WOW!! If that makes any sense.
The small size threw me for a loop, but for my next one I'll try to keep that in mind and see if I can wrap my brain around it better. I need to learn some new tricks.
