Fitz and Nighteyes.

Description

FitzChivalry Farseer and Nighteyes, from the beginning of the Tawny Man Trilogy. In honour of the announcement of Robin Hobb's new book.

I initially set out to make a more in depth illustration since I had done the character designs and everything, but in skimming through the books I recalled the beginning of the 2nd trilogy where Fitz is just looking out to sea, reaching for anything that might reach back for him, and the immense openness and loneliness of that part of the book. It seemed appropriate to do something very simple instead.

I really liked this piece.
Now, let go to the in-depth critique...

1.Vision and 2. Originality. This get 4 stars. I like how the artist gives insight in a moment of Fitz's life. I give 4 points to this. It also ties with the 3.5 stars of originality. The reason is: this shows how, in Fitz's life, Nightseye wasn't enough. Oh, he loved his bond-partner, truly and deeply. But he wasn't enough. And this is something very rarely seen in the fandom, and an insightful view in their relationship.

3. Technique. I am, I fear, not an artist myself, so I have little way to understand. For what I can see, I like the stern sparseness of the concept, the clean colour palettes and the little touch (the wisps of air...) that hint of movement in an immoble moment. Very well thought.

4. Impact. 4.5 stars. This deviation hit me deeply, making me thinking again about Fitz and Nightseye, about love and how it, alone, isn't enough. It also shows how, in spite of all his claim of being "content", Fitz was lying to himself all the while.

In short, a very insightful, poingnant work done in a precise, almost scalpel-like, way. Good work <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>
