Eowyn of Rohan by FionaCreates Eowyn of Rohan by FionaCreates
And so, since I have been trying to get lots of people to tool recently I thought I'd put my money where my mouth is and 'pixel'.

Eowyn from LOTR. More of her teenage self before she was drawn down into the dark place we first meet her in.

Eowyn was 100% created with the hard edged pencil, but I tend to scribble and well, colour count went out the window so I could get her just perfect.

119 unique colours. Yeah.. keeping it low colour count went out the window XD

So there you have it, I CAN pixel.

I challenge all dollers to make a doll using tool if you pixel, and pixel if you tool. :P Join the revolution.

I agree, it comes and goes with the next big thing, but it's nice to settle rather than play 'catch-up' with the rest of the crowd, because to me, it's frustrating. :/

I don't mind lots of fanart for something in the cinema or new out on TV, it's an expression of fan love, but it often feels like people are just going along with the crowd than seriously making nice pictures.

It's very amazing! You did a great job with pixel art! You, a tooler, made a doll in pixel better than lots of pixel dollers xD

artistic priciples of shape, tone, colour and texture are universal. Once you understand them transfering them from one media to the next is pretty easy. :D I don't really see it as being any different to what I usually make only the tools I used were different. Same as if I painted or drew it instead.

But I'm not telling that pixel art principles are different from the tool one. I'm telling about adaptation. For me, accostumed with pixel platform, wasn't so easy take the right way of tool ones. But considering that you used Gimp, full of layers and help-tools, it wasn't so different =)
Again, your doll is amazing, and I really liked it!

I didn't actually make use of the layers when I pixelled this beyond having my sketch on one layer and the pixel on another. Compared to when I tool and I can get up to 40 layers if I'm being layer happy that day.

I already do both depending on what tickles my fancy. Can I still be in the revolution? .-.

I promise not to say that she looks like Merida ;)

She's very beautiful! I love the green pallette that you chose, and her hair is awesome!

Eowyn killed a Ringwraith. She's way cooler :P

The green is simply that's the 'colour' of Rohan so they seem to have a lot of green around XD

Pyro, I have totally been working on a tooled doll (that isn't just dodge and burn like I used to do in the early days of my dolling career.

I'm even doing it as a pageant entry. I can't wait to show you. XD

Mostly I find it amazing what you can learn by abandoning what you usually rely on. There are some things I've found nice about this doll that I'd like to explore further with my tools. I don't fancy pixelling again in a hurry but it was v useful to do so :D

It's nice to hear that it was useful! I hope tooling will give me the same experience.
