pixel art is created using the pencil tool, you dot each individual pixel by hand, something along the lines of this --> [link]
tooled is what we call work that is small like pixel art, but uses other tools, like brushes and dodge and burn and smudge and generally things you see in digital painting. I prefer to do this instead of pixel but lots of people still prefer to pixel.
Ah, that's great. I'm trying to play with pixel art a bit and I would love to learn how to doll, though I'd probably take a while and quite some effort but that's for all art forms. Do you have any tutorials, resources, groups you could link me too? I was wondering if I could find a mentor who wouldn't mind nudging a complete beginner like me. Thank you so much!
the group #DamnFineDollers has lots of tutorials and bases, and if you're looking for good bases you can also check out #Original-Bases
Tbh the only way to learn how to doll is grab a base and get started There's no 'wrong' way to do it. We also have a chatroom [link] which often has lots of dollers in regularly (if there's no one you can either leave it open in a tab and come back later or just come back later anyway, it's regularly got some people in it) and everyone's always rly friendly.
Another place is [link] which is an external doll and pixel forum only where most of us on dA also hang out.
I'd say just jump right in and start making, then worry about the learning once you've got started As for it taking a while, we're all still learning
